Year 6

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Term 4 has started with all of its excitement and challenges. For the past three weeks, students have been frantically working in class on their tasks and have also participated in extra-curricular activities designed for them. On Friday 19th October, Sirius College Shepparton Campus organised an Athletics/Lapathon Day at McEwen Reserve. The events started around 10:30a.m. and finished 3:25p.m. For athletics, students got the chance to participate in activities like, shot put, distance running, high jump, triple and long jump, novelty races and vortex. Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Lapathon. Below are some details and feedback about these activities from the students.

We really enjoyed Athletics Day. All the Year 6 students were happy for the positions they got for distance running. Year 6 girls’ results are Tahira got first position, Aysha second and I was third. The Year 6 boys’ scores were Mohammed & Hussain got first position, Raihaan second and Mahdi was third. We also had a Lapathon on the same day which was really colourful. The whole school was energetic and happy about it. There were three winners from our class, Raihaan Syed, Mohammed Hameed, and myself, all with the same score. I would like to thank our teachers who organized the Lapathon and Athletics Day.

On the Athletics/Lapathon Day, all the students participated in different games in their house group. At our school, there are four houses: Goulburn which is the Blue group, Ovens which is the Red group, Hopkins is the Green group and Murray which is the Yellow group. The first activity that Year 6 participated in was the Distance. We had to run 1 lap which was 400m. I was in Green Group. In the distance, I got 1st position with Mohammed Hameed. I also participated in other activities like Triple Jump, Long Jump, Novelty Races and Vortex etc. At the end, Hopkins House, the Green group, won. Hurray!. The last activity was the Lapathon, which was the coolest activity of the day. We ran around in laps. Teachers and some volunteer parents sprayed us with different coloured powder. At the end of the day, we had our reward, the icy-poles. The whole day was a lot of fun!

Athletics Day, it was fun but also extremely tiring! We had Distance first and WOW!, it was fantastic and I did well, I think. We participated in many activities during the day and students won ribbons but I didn’t. I satisfied myself thinking, “At least I tried”. We all cheered for our team and WOW! I could’ve lost my voice but who cares, we had a great time!
